Dog Treats

Just like us, our pets love to get rewarded! And, incorporating healthy treats into their daily routine can help with training, behavior and bonding – not to mention, your dog will love it! There are many different types of treats available, including crunchy treats like biscuits, chewy treats, dog bones, antlers for dogs, jerky treats and freeze dried treats. There are also treats that are used for health and nutrition, including calming treats, dental treats, joint care treats, and treats to aid in digestion. So, read on to find out what’s best for your furry friend! Since treats are a type of food, the first thing you’ll want to figure out is how many treats should you give your dog each day. Most vets and nutritionists recommend no more than 10% of your dog’s daily calories come from treats. So, if you’re going to use treats for rewards or in training, and plan to use quite a few each day, you may want to look for very small dog treats. And chewy treats tend to be more “high value” than crunchy dog biscuits. However, if you just want something to give your dog for being a good boy, crunchy dog biscuits work great. Either type of treat will come in all different flavors including beef, chicken, lamb, venison, duck, salmon, and even rabbit. Remember, the stinkier the treats, the more rewarding they are to your dog. If you’re trying to find treats that your dog can enjoy for a longer period of time, antlers, pig ears, bully sticks, and other types of bones work really well. These treats are great for burning energy and relieving boredom. Just be sure to keep an eye on your buddy to make sure these type of treats don’t get too small, or become choking hazards. Remember, your furry friend has the reasoning ability of a toddler, so he may not know when to quit. Many fellow wagtopians set a time for 10 – 15 minutes, pick up the treat, and save it for another day. This also allows you to offer a variety of these type of treats to keep it fun and interesting for your dog.

If you’re four legged friend has allergy issues, social issues, or nutritional issues, there are targeted treats to help with each of these areas. Many senior dogs with mobility issues or joint pain relief may benefit from soft chewy treats with glucosamine and chondroitin. While dogs with allergies may need grain free or limited ingredient treats. And dogs with different forms of anxiety may benefit from CBD treats or other natural dog treats. Make sure to check with your veterinarian to learn more.

No matter what type of treat you choose for your best buddy, Wagtopia has you covered. With hundreds of brands to choose from including Milkbone, Greenies, Blue Buffalo, Merrick, Zukes, Nutro, Purina, and many more, you and your dog will have plenty to choose from!
