Tips to Keep Your Pet Happy and Healthy This Summer

Summer days are long and fun. The sun is out, outdoor activities are in full swing, and if your family has pets, your dogs are most likely tagging along with you.  Since dogs can’t tell us when they are uncomfortable, it’s important to know what is good and what to avoid during those long, hot summer days.

  • Lots of Water
    • Always make sure your dog has fresh water within reach. Just like humans, we don’t want to deprive our dogs or accidently dehydrate them in the heat.
  • Shade
    • If your dog likes to be outside a lot, make sure they have a shady spot to find if they want to take a break from the sun.
  • Car safety
    • It is so important to never leave your dog in the car when it is warm out. Even what seems like a mild temperature can make your car fill with heat and suffocate your pet.
  • Keep your house cool
    • If you are off to work for the day, make sure your air conditioner is on and the house stays cool throughout the day.
  • Be aware of black pavement
    • Dark pavement can burn your pet’s paws so be careful if you’re out on a walk and avoid black pavement.
  • Take walks early or late
    • Don’t wait until mid-afternoon, aka the hottest part of the day, to take your pup out for some exercise.  Go early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s a bit cooler and the sun is not on full blast.

We hope these tips are helpful for you and your pup. Stay safe this summer and have fun!
