10 Celebrities Who Love Cats

Celebrity dog owners may get a bit more attention than their cat-loving counterparts in the media, but there are tons of professional athletes, musicians, and actors who love their cats.

Here are 10 celebrities who have publicly expressed their love for their feline friend.

  1. Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais may be a comedian, but he’s very serious about advocating for animals and is an outspoken supporter of animal welfare organizations. He also happens to have a soft spot for kitties, and adores his cat, Ollie. Better yet, Ollie is something of a celebrity, too—she makes frequent appearances on social media.

  1. Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift may be one of the highest-grossing recording artists of all time, but she’s also something of a crazy cat lady; her puurfect cats are named Olivia Grey and Meredith Benson. The cats are named for Mariska Hargitay’s character on Law & Order: SVU, Detective Olivia Benson, and Ellen Pompeo’s character on Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith Gray.

  1. Jason Mraz

When he’s not making music, Jason Mraz is spending time with his cat, Holmes, who is a frequent guest star on his Instagram page. Mraz is also a passionate public advocate for the “Adopt, Don’t Shop” movement.

  1. Morrissey

To say that UK recording artist Morrissey is a cat lover might be an understatement; an outspoken PETA supporter, he has a website that’s exclusively dedicated to his love for feline friends, and a Tumblr page called Morrissey with Cats features pictures of himself enjoying the company of kitties.

  1. Russell Brand

Actor and comedian Russell Brand is also an outspoken and self-professed cat lover, and it just so happens that he named his beloved moggie cat after fellow cat lover Morrissey. When he’s not acting or telling jokes, Brand can be found at home making entertaining YouTube videos with his kitty.

  1. Ed Sheeran

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran isn’t just famous for his chart-topping hits or sold-out concerts—he also happens to be a devout cat lover to Calippo and Dorito, who also have their own Instagram account (@thewibbles). Earlier this year, he publicly mourned the loss of his first cat, Graham.

  1. Katy Perry

Devoted Katy Perry fans would easily recognize her kitties, Monkey and the appropriately-named Kitty Purry, who actually served as the inspiration for a stage decoration during her Hello Katy tour. Not only are the cats frequently posted on social media, but they can also be seen posing with Perry in selfies with her fans.

  1. Betty White

The 97-year-old actress Betty White has had a lifelong love affair with cats, and has remained actively involved with organizations such as P&G Pet Care (Eukanuba/Iams) and the Morris Animal Foundation. The former Golden Girl’s first childhood cat was an orange tabby named Toby.

  1. James Franco

Actor James Franco’s family is famously a group of cat lovers—his fellow actor brother, Dave Franco, has been said to prefer kicking back at home with his kitties over going out to parties, and their mom, Betsy, is also a fan of kitties. Today, the elder Franco brother shares his home with two cats named Sammy and Zelda (he tends to name his cats after literary characters), and has been known to share stories about his two favorite felines during media appearances as well as his personal social media accounts.

  1. Mandy Moore

Singer-songwriter This is Us actress Mandy Moore has adopted cats with hubby Ryan Adams, including Addison, Maddie, Theo, and Vincent, and she has partnered with companies like Purina to support initiatives that donate hundreds of millions of dollars to cat shelters across the country.
